The traditional butterfly valve never used a very tight closure. But after several years of development, now the butterfly valves have been manufactured along with a fairly tight seal. A ball valve is a type of quarter-turn valve. It uses a hollow and perforated ball to control the flow, and hence it is called as the ball valve.  It gets open when the hole in the ball comes in line with the flow and closes when it gets at a pivoted angle of 90 degrees. Motor Operated Valves, better known as MOV, are the valves that are extensively used in the Plant & Piping system. These valves are quite large and are often used in different applications like pump discharge, and many more.

Motor Operated Valves are also called as On-Off valves, due to the mainly On-Off service functionality involved. The motors can fully open or fully close the valves in pipelines. They are used in cooling water lines, process pipelines, etc. where there is no need for the regulation of the fluid. The motor-operated valves are mostly used to fully allow or fully close the fluid or gas flow. These valves are not used for controlling and regulating the pressure.

Some people confuse themselves between Control Valves and MOV, but they are very different. While in control valves, there is faster response, but MOV does not. The control valves can have analogue control element, but the motorised operated valves have a digital control. The control valves are used in closed-loop control, but MOV is open loop, except precision flow control valves.
